KIMBLA-MANTANA

_____AFRICAN SAFARIS_____

Uganda -  Churchill’s “Pearl” is a country that boasts the mighty gorilla, the chimpanzee and the Nile’s most dramatic waterfall. It’s verdant tropical forests and plateaus play host to a myriad of birds and arboreal wildlife while its beautiful scenery of lakes, forests and savannahs and it’s hospitable people make for a truly memorable safari.

From the abundant birdlife of the Kazinga channel, linking lake Edward to lake George, the clouded peaks of the Ruwenzories, Ptolemy’s “Mountains of the moon” to the lush greenery of the “Impenetrable forest”, home of the Mountain Gorilla, Uganda never fails to mesmerize even the most jaded soul.

Uganda has ten national parks and several other wildlife and forest reserves that give a good representation of both East African and West African mammals and includes fourteen primates. It is also a very attractive country for bird-watchers with 1008 species recorded. This is attributed to it being a meeting point between the open savannahs of East Africa and the rainforests of West Africa.

Uganda is a very fertile country with almost twenty five percent of its surface area covered with water. Whilst the majority of Uganda is  well watered and mostly covered by forest or sub-tropical cultivation, the north east is much drier than the majority of the country, being covered in semi-desert and dry acacia woodland.

Most of Uganda’s population is concentrated in the south and west and include the Bantu based Baganda, Ankole, Toro, Banyoro and Basoga.  The lesser populated north and east of the country contain the several Nilotic or Cushitic tribes including the Teso, Karamajong, Acholi and Lango.
